Francis Peabody was born on Wednesday, 12 February 1721 at Boxford, Essex Co., Massachusetts, USA. He and Mary Brown were married on Sunday, 18 November 1742 at Boxford, Essex Co., Massachusetts, USA. He lived in Boxford until 1764, when he moved to the St. John River, in that part of Nova Scotia which in 1784 was set off as New Brunswick. He had command of a company in the French and Indian War and participated in the attack on Ticonderoga in July 1759. At the end of the season, his company returned home. In the next year his company was in the expedition against Canada by way of Albany and Lake Champlain. After the surrender of the French at Chambly the company returned to Ticonderoga and marched thence to Boxford across country, arriving about the first of December.
