Francis Peabody

    Francis Peabody was born in 1614 at England. He boarded the ship Planter in the spring of 1635, (April 2 or 11) bound for New England, and he was entered as being 21, husbandman, from St. Albans going to Hampton. The ship arrived at Boston, June 7, 1635. He settled first at Ipswich, Massachusetts, then joined Reverend Stephen "Bachilor" and 12 others in the original settlement of Hampton, New Hampshire. He and Lydia (?) Peabody were married. Here he was admitted freeman on May 18, 1642. In 1645 he held a share in the common grounds and was a member of the comittee to oversee the finishing of the meeting house. He sold in 1649 his house and lot, Hampton, New Hampshire, USA, to Robert Drake of Exeter for £25 13s. He then removed to Topsfield, Massachusetts. He and Mary Foster, daughter of Reginald Foster and Judith Wignol, were married on Monday, 18 May 1654 at Framingham, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts, USA. In Topsfield he was one of the selectmen, lieutenant of the local military company and an honoured member of the church and community.
     Francis died on Wednesday, 19 February 1697/98 at Topsfiled, Essex Co., Massachusetts, USA, at age 84 years.
